This week we asked you, our readers, who you felt was worthy enough of carrying the title of Beast of the Beasts. You provided us with not one, but three possible players to choose from, Benoit Pouliot, Brian Rolston and Marty Turco.  Looking at the stat cards for the past week, we had to make the choice and go with forward Benoit Pouliot, although Brian Rolston came in a close second. As for Marty Turco, we can give him an honorable mention, based on his short time with the Bruins and the two wins that he did provide. It was a great run Marty and we thank you for your time and efforts. It’s been real.

Beast of the Beasts: David Krejci

After reviewing the poll results, the person that you, our readers, voted for this week’s Beast of the Beasts is David Krejci. Krejci had been in a serious slump, registering only 1 goal and 1 assist in 13 games played. In the last five he has jumped to 5 goals and 1 assist, that’s quite an improvement. The spark came after coach Claude Julien moved Krejci around a bit from different lines to different positions. He is currently sporting a line with forwards Milan Lucic and Tyler Seguin whom he is centering.

The month of March has proven to be where Krejci thrives as an athlete, the minute the calendar flips and the numbers are there to prove it. Krejci has put up 13 goals and 20 assists along with a plus-14 in 32 games during the month of March over the last three years. (via Bruins statistics)

“He likes to thrive on big occasions. There’s no doubt that every playoff he’s played in, he’s been a good player. Every year at the end of the year, he’s always been a good player,” said Claude Julien. “What I remember the most is my first year here when [Krejci] was a rookie. We lost Patrice [Bergeron] and then [Marc] Savard with a broken back, and [Krejci] came in and just took over.”(via CSNNE.com)

It seems to be Seguin and Lucic’s speed that is the driving force behind the success of Krejci, paired with his undeniable talent. As he has been flourishing with the two forwards on either side of him. The tempo of his game has increased and the line as a whole has posted six goals for the team in the last two games. You can’t argue with those numbers.

“[Krejci is at his best] when he controls the pace and uses his wingers and gets into those areas where he can score those goals,” said Lucic. “Obviously, it’s been kind of an up and down year for David and it’s been frustrating at times for him, but it’s great to see him work through it.”(via CSNNE.com)

Beast of the Beasts: Patrice Bergeron

This week we turned to the polls to ask who you, our readers, thought deserved to be this week’s Beast of the Beasts to which you responded Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron. Bergeron, who was recently voted as the National Hockey League’s most underrated player by the NHLPA, has been a big part of the Bruins success as of late.

Bergeron was a second round draft pick, 73rd overall in the 2003 entry draft, the same year as Providence Bruin Josh Hennessy. Currently Bergeron is ranked 2nd in the League for his +/_ rating of 28 and is one of the teams top scorers with 19 goals, just three behind team leader Brad Marchand.

Bergeron was chosen this week for Beast of the Beasts because of the way he stepped up to the plate this week on the road with the absence of Peverley and Horton causing some serious wear and tear on the Bruins. In the last five games Bergeron has managed to post 13 shots on goal and register 2goals and 2 assists.

Last night’s game against the Ottawa Senators was more or less a showcase of the incredible talent Bergeron possesses. In the first period alone Bergeron had managed to net a goal and assist on the other to give the Bruins a one-goal lead going into the second period. The Bruins first first period lead since mid-January. In the second period Bergeron would showcase his talents in attempting a shot on goaltender Alex Auld that would hit him high in the shoulder and was the given to defensman Colin Greening. Bergeron would then intercept the puck from Greening and go on to fire yet another shot at Auld, which was also saved. Bergeron posted 9 shots on goal, tying his season high that dated back to October 20 as well as tying his season high for goals and assists in a single game. (vs Calgary on January 5)
