Today the Boston Bruins ship down to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins for the second time this week in a matinee game on this fine holiday. Tuesday evening the Bruins got off to a dominating start in the first period, netting two goals early on. It wouldn’t be until the final six minutes of the last period that they would appear to have gassed themselves out completely and allow Brandon Sutter and Chris Kunitz to waltz all over them and secure a 3-2 victory.
The Bruins are looking to avenge their less than dominant beginning to the week and got off to a great start yesterday afternoon as they rallied for a strong 4-1 victory against the Capitals. In interviews coach Claude Julien had called out the Nathan Horton-Mailan Lucic and David Krejci line for not playing at their best. He made subtle comments and mentioned how they needed to get back to their North-South style of play. Yesterday, the line exploded and it seemed as though the tough criticism did the trick as Nathan Horton recorded a Gordie Howe Hattrick and posted 3 points, Milan Lucic earned himself two assists and a plethora of shots on net, and Dacvid Krejci skated away with a goal and an assist. The starting line paired with an outstanding performance by Anton Khudobin between the pipes helped lead the team to a comfortable lead and much needed solid victory.
This afternoon they look to exact revenge on the Penguins for humiliating them in their last meeting. They are going to need to put the same effort into today’s game as they did against the Capitals if not more. While the Krejci line may have heated up, the Bergeron line was quiet, a rarity as of late. Today both lines are going to have to be on top of their game and the defensemen are going to have to be prepared for a strong offense if they plan on coming out on top. They have succeeded the best when they instill an early lead with a couple of goals in hand and then play solid defense through the next two frames. If they continue with this style of play they should be in great shape as they face one of the toughest teams in the league.
