Tonight’s game would end the point streak of one team and continue the streak of the other. The question was who would get the 2 points and who would come away with their first regulation loss of the season?

The answer…neither!
The Bruins are coming off of a win in Carolina last night against the Hurricanes. This would be their first back-to-back game of the season. Meanwhile, the New Jersey Devils were coming off of a Sunday OT win against the Montreal Canadiens. It would be Tuukka Rask versus Johan Hedberg in net. Rask had the night off last night as Anton Khudobin played in Monday’s game.
Here’s a breakdown of the game by period:
First Period:
22 versus 22 showdown aka Shawn Thornton and Krystofer Barch got into a brawl at the 14:21 mark in a fight that seemed to have lasted forever. In just 6 games, this is Thortys second fighting major. I can only assume there’s more to come of that.
Aside from the fighting majors, both teams were penalty free until 4:41 was remaining. Andrew Ference would get the delayed tripping call, and the Bruins penalty kill would have to maintain their perfect performance. And they did now going 24-on-24 this season.
Shots on goal were an even 9 shots each.
Second Period:
49 seconds into the period, the B’s would get their first power play opportunity off of a high-sticking call on Anton Volchenkov. They wouldn’t score but they had several good opportunities.
At 7:22 Johnny Boychuk would get a tripping call giving the Devils another PP chance. And then the perfect B’s PK came to an end with a goal from David Clarkson.
The B’s would soon get a chance for a power play goal of their own but it was once again wasted. At this point the Devils had all the momentum coming off of that goal. Bruins would then have to go on the kill, yeah seriously it happened that quickly but the call on Daniel Paille was questionable at best. B’s killed it but then Nathan Horton would go in the box. At this point there’s 5 minutes remaining in the second. Nothing came from it, and nothing exciting really happened this period. Basically as a Bruins fan, you didn’t miss much.
Shots were 16-14 in favor of the Devils.
Third Period:
Kicking off the third period, the Bruins go on ANOTHER PK as David Krejci gets called on a horrible goaltending interference call. Bruins killed it and for the record they have killed 4-of-5 and I’ll take that anyday.
With 11:45 gone in the final period, the Bruins would get a PP chance off a Devils hooking call. This was the opportunity that they needed but they let it slip despite a few good rushes.
BUT THEN…with 4:05 to go Horton would score. And we would have a tied game. Once again the Horton-Krejci-Looch line comes up big. Krejci and Looch would get the assist and that would be Krejci’s 200th assist of his career.
The Bruins and Devils would tie for regulation and both end up with a point…once again.
Overtime:
At this point, both teams want the win. After 60+ minutes, the momentum is just as strong and both teams have the chances. But that ot period came and went and it would come down to a shoot out.

The Bruins are back in action on Thursday as they take on the Buffalo Sabres at home at 7pm!
